The British Virgin Islands are a group of over 50 islands in all, forming the northwestern extremity of the Leeward Islands. Situated some 60 miles east of Puerto Rico, they have a total land area of 59 square miles. All the islands except Anegada are hilly and volcanic in origin, the highest point being Mt. Sage on Tortola, at 1,780 feet.
The islands are delightfully quiet, uncommercialised and picturesque. With their sheltered waters, they are one of the finest and safest sailing areas in the world. Miles of beautiful unspoiled beaches and concealed bays offer a wealth of privacy and peace. The islands enjoy a particularly healthy climate, sub-tropical but with heat tempered by the trade winds.
Road Town, the busy capital, is on the south-eastem shore of Tortola, and is the central administrative and business centre of the territory.
Weddings (as of 29 Sept,. 2007):
Cost: $110 in BVI Postage Stamps if BVI resident for three days; $50 in BVI Postage Stamps if BVI resident for 15 days or more.
Waiting period: Three days.
Documents: Passport and date of arrival in the British Virgin Islands. Apply for licence at the Registrar General's office in Tortola on same day of arrival.
