WESTERN BUREAU:

Canada’s WestJet has announced that it will be launching non-stop service between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Kingston, three times per week.

A release from the airline says the flights will operate on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays starting April 30, 2012 and are subjected to government approval.

Kingston is part of WestJet’s summer schedule, which it says features two new sun destinations and the expansion of service from seasonal to year-round on four popular winter routes.

The other sun destination is Aruba.

WestJet currently services Montego Bay daily from Toronto.

The airline says full schedule details and great introductory one-way fares from US$149 to Kingston and $189 to Aruba (plus applicable taxes and fees) are available by visiting its website.

"Once again, we believe this schedule represents measured and balanced growth across our network," said John MacLeod, WestJet Vice-President, Network Management and Alliances.

"We believe Kingston will be well received by Canadians and Jamaicans travelling between the island and Canada."

He continued: "Aruba's friendly people and beautiful landscape make it the ideal destination for families and couples, and a great addition to WestJet Vacations product offerings."

Oh-oh. Methinks competition doth this way come!

Umm, I wonder if CAL / Air Jamaica will give Canadians as much as 24 hours notice of terminating services to/from Toronto?
