About Barbados... |
Area Code (246) |
Barbados is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands. The climate is warm, healthy and cooled by constant sea breezes. The island's name came from the Portugese, who christened the island Los Barbados after the beard-like fig trees which grew there at the time.
Barbados - largely of coral formation and surrounded by miles of white sand beaches - is 21 miles (34 km) long and 14 miles (23 km) at its widest point. It is relatively flat, but has a varied and attractive coastline and rolling countryside covered with sugar cane.
Bridgetown is the principal commercial centre, port and largest town; it lies in the southwest in the parish of St. Michael. Outstanding in St. Michael is the superb Paradise Beach. Trafalgar Square, at the end of Broad Street, the capital's main street and shopping haven, remains the focal point of bustling year-round activity. There is a statue of Lord Nelson, pre-dating the one which stands in London's Trafalgar Square.
Shops and department stores line Broad and Swan Streets in Bridgetown, and excellent specialty shops and boutiques have sprung up the Christ Church and St. James coasts.
Timeshares in Barbados:
There are many beautiful Caribbean timeshare resorts in Barbados, mostly in Christ Church, St. Philip, and St. James. Guests will experience many amenities like large villa suites, oversized swimming pools and quiet walks to the beach. They are the perfect option for people who return often to the Caribbean, and are less expensive than the hotels here.Weddings (as of 29 Sept,. 2007):
Costs: $100 cash and $12.50 in Barbados postage stamps for the wedding plus $10 for the marriage certificate.
Documents: Marriage licence secured from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bridgetown. Valid passports or birth certificates, plus your return tickets home. Letter from the Marriage Officer.
Please note: Documents required for a Roman Catholic Ceremony must be sent by the couple's Bishop to the Bishop of Bridgetown prior to the ceremony.
